As a massive “Lord of the Rings” fan, I’m super happy to announce that Ian McKellen was cast to play Cogsworth in Disney’s live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast,” Variety has confirmed.
Ian recently reprised his role as Gandalf in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” and can be seen next in Bill Condon’s “Mr. Holmes,” which makes its way to theaters on July 17.
The casting for this movie has been incredible so far! Emma Watson will play Belle; Dan Stevens will be the Beast/Prince; Luke Evans was cast as the narcissistic villain, Gaston; Josh Gad will portray Le Fou, Gaston’s sidekick; Emma Thompson will take on the role of Mrs. Potts; and Audra McDonald will play Garderobe, the wardrobe.
Bill Condon will direct the Disney retelling. The script was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and rewritten by Stephen Chbosky. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films are producing the movie.
