Ladies and gentlemen, meet your Gaston.
We’re so pleased to announce that none other than Luke Evans (who most recently played Bard in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies) is in talks to take on the role as the dashing yet narcissistic antagonist who tries to win Belle’s heart in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, Variety has reported.
Emma Watson was cast to play Belle in the Disney retelling.
The live-action Beauty and the Beast movie is being directed by Bill Condon, who also directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Breaking Dawn Part 2.
The script was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, and redrafted by Steve Chbosky.
No release date has been set for the movie yet, but production begins later this year.
So . . . what do you think if this casting? We think Luke will make a perfect Gaston—but by the end we might not like him so much. I mean, he tries to kill the Beast dammit! Kidding, we love Luke and think he absolutely owned his performance in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and that he’ll own his performance as Gaston too!
