Assistant Director Janson (Rat-Man) becomes the main antagonist in the Maze Runner novels, which were written by James Dashner.

The Scorch Trials will hits theaters September 18, 2015 — exactly a year after The Maze Runner was released.

The movie is set to start shooting at the end of October. Not much of a break for everyone, but all their hard work will certainly pay off at the box office, as it did for The Maze Runner. (The movie has grossed $81.5 million worldwide so far, and it has yet to open in 27 markets.)

Wes Ball is making a return for the sequel, and the production team, Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group, are also coming back. Dylan O’Brien will continue his role as Thomas in The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. There hasn’t been any other casting news released yet, but Bookfandoms.com will, as always, keep you updated!

In other Maze Runner news, we just announced that James Dashner is currently penning a prequel to The Maze Runner novel, and it’s called The Fever Code. Of the new project, James told MTV:

“From the very beginning, I’ve always wanted to write a prequel about Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, Alby and all the Gladers that leads up to the very moment Thomas enters the Box.There are so many things hinted at that will be fun to reveal in depth. For years, fans have made it abundantly and enthusiastically clear that they want the same thing, so now seems like the perfect time to give readers the story of how the Maze began.”

The book will be released in 2016.

As for the Scorch Trials movie, who’s getting excited? We are!
